1 book and 1 project finished!

I just moments ago finished reading The Seventh Station.  I really like McInerny's writing and he does a good job of making the stories exciting but not ridiculously suspenseful.  It seems also a good way to become a little more acquainted with Catholicism since I really don't know much about it at this point.  I tried to find some DVDs of the Father Dowling tv show that was on several years ago but without much success yet.

In other news, I finished my octo last night!  And Oliver is now officially Olivia.  After I got done, I realized that she was much to pretty and shiny to be a boy.  :)  Here are some pics of her progress:
Body parts cut out and waiting to be sewn (the worst part of the whole project =cutting 16 leg pieces!)

Legs waiting to be sewn on...suckers done on one leg.

Close up of the first leg complete with suckers
Ta da!  Meet Olivia!  See how she is much to pretty to be a boy?  :)

I think she is very cute!

I still haven't decided what I am going to work on next...going to think about it and hopefully start something new tomorrow since I don't have to work.  Having this week free has been really nice and helpful for getting things done!
Already started reading my cleaning book too!  :)

Ollie and my books

I officially decided to name the forming octopus Oliver, or Ollie for short!  So far, his body is sewn and stuffed along with 4 of his 8 legs.  My dad thinks that perhaps I should just make a quadrapod, but I think all 8 legs would be more sufficient.  ;)   Pics of Ollie in progress will hopefully be up tomorrow.

I also officially decided to read The Seventh Station by Ralph McInerny as my fiction for the week and Clean House Clean Planet by Karen Logan as my non-fiction.  I got into Ralph McInerny's Father Dowling mysteries over the weekend while at my boyfriend's.  He recommended the books to me and let me borrow his, and I devoured the first book in a couple days.  My wonderful boyfriend also got me the second book for Christmas, which I had been desperately wanting for a while and I can't wait to read it and put some clean healthy cleaning supplies to use!

Until tomorrow, then!

Welcome 2011 and January!

So with a brand new year, I have decided to start a brand new blog with my brand new projects/crafts and book finds.  This is going to be an interesting adventure for me and I am going to work on being FLEXIBLE!  The perfectionist part of me will not appreciate it if I miss doing or reading something during a week.  So I must remember that this is for fun and work on not getting stressed out if I can't finish something.  :)

During this month of January 2011, I have decided to work with felt, particularly working on my hand-stitching.  I recently saw how fun felt can be (I haven't learned how to felt wool yet but that is something I might be able to accomplish one of the months this year.)  I also saw how pathetic my hand stitching is.  So, I shall do my best to improve it this month! (Maybe, just maybe I'll put up some pictures of the Christmas gift tags that I stitched for family and friends.)
This week, of January 1st-9th I am going to work on an octopus that I found the pattern for that looks so cute and fun.  I have already cut out the pieces and need to get stitching soon!  Hopefully I will be able to put pictures up as I go along.

For books, well, I haven't exactly decided what 2 books I will read this week but it will be decided tomorrow!

Well, off to bed for me (after I shower and watch Bones, of course).  :)
